AUC THEATRE BRINGS ANCIENT GREEK COMEDY TO LIFE WITH THE MODERN ADAPTATION OF ARISTOPHANES TIMELESS PLAY LYSISTRATA.

The fast-paced comedy, originally written thousands of years ago, has been updated by American playwright Ellen McLaughlin. The play follows Lysistrata, an Athenian housewife, who calls for the women of Greece to help end the 30 year Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata’s plan is somewhat radical: all Greek women must refuse their husbands until the men put down their weapons and promise to live in peace.

When the women - tired or losing their husbands, children and fathers - take matters into their own hands, the men become desperate and engage in a ridiculous struggle to maintain both control and the war. This social spoof from 411 BCE, still relevant today, asks the question: what happens when women speak up?

Directed by Jillian Campana with scenic and lighting design by John Stephen Hoey and costumes by Jeanne Arnold, this comedy features dance choreographed by Nicole Roerick, a cast of 20 and a guarantee of a fun filled 90 minutes.
