Visions is an annual non-profit cultural and artistic film festival, organized and supervised by an academic committee appointed by the Film Program, department of the Arts at the American University in Cairo. The Festival builds on an event which was organized by the Film Program in 2015 and under the same name, where a selection of films made by young and emerging Egyptian filmmakers were selected to be introduced to film lovers in the city. The great success of the event encouraged the Film Program to develop further this idea into a full-fledged film festival which focuses on the work of emerging Egyptian filmmakers with genuine interest in the art of short film cinema; one which also provides a unique venue for the lovers of this art in the city of Cairo.

The main goal of this Festival is to contribute to the development and the enriching of Film culture in Cairo and in Egypt in general. Of particular interest is the screening of films that depict and reflect the hopes and concerns of marginalized segments of Egyptian society including the poor, youth, and women.

This years’ version is dedicated to films from Egypt. The festival takes place in the Falaki Theater in the Downtown campus of the American University in Cairo between April 25 and May 1, 2018. Films are evaluated by a Screening Committee: This Committee determines which films will be screened at the Festival. The Committee also specifies the films that will take part in the official competition of the Festival.

Dates of the festival: April 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and May 1
